bloom servers
I read something quite exciting today. People have invented a new mechanism to generate electricity on the spot. The server has a patented fuel cell and we need to supply natural gas or some other form of fuel (even fossil is fine) and it can generate clean electricity with higher efficiency. Efficiency is much much better than a combustion engine which is generaly used in our diesel generators. THey are projecting that for 3000$ then can make a box wich will power the entire home. Looks like it will be businesses which will pick them up first before they reach home. See more here

Data
Went through two interesting data today.
One is about chinese labour shortage. This is something I was expecting to happen a little later. Looks like it has started to happen already. I was amused by the avergae age of labours working in worlds largest aptop manufacturer when I was there in their factory for some official work. They were so young and belonged to the same age group, and almost every where in china this is what was happening. I used to wonder what the next gen in China will do esp after population starts to shrink. I dont think that newer and newer generation wont toil as much as the present generationa and that is going to cause some issues.
Looks like there is an interesting angle of rising rural incomes also contributing to this. So unless chips shrink faster, the smart phones and laptops are going to get expensive?
Anyway here is WSJ article
Second one is more interesting. Present government in TN is more famous for bringing the TV free (even if you have LCD panel) and rice for 1Rsper KG. Now they have started to give a lakh insurance per family too. And how did they manage to do that? A lot of heavy lifting comes from unexpected "quarter" of the government for which the revenues are growing at more than 100+% A dream run for any corporate.

second dip of the double dip coming?
As I read through the economic articles, suddenly a lot of negativity has creeped in. It is really interesting to read the economic articles, even though I dont know how much they are helpful to me day to day. But it gives a sense of feel of about what to expect. From what I read, PIIGS (Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain) in europe, and Argentia are going to be bankrupt sooner or later which will expose the debts the goverments are in. If that happens then currency is going to be hit harder and they will devalue their currency which will result in higher prices. Or Govt can print money and solve debt which also going to result in the samething. Only way out looks like tightening the Govt's purses and increasing the taxes. US is still in a bad situation with lots of the Govt revenue being used to serve up the interest of its' debts. China is also looking at tightening the monetary situationa and slowsly withdraw stimulus. In India people are talking abou increasing interest rates and revoking the fiscal measures.
So it is not joyous situation to be in. As an optimist always, I dont believe in a armageddon and that can only happen on the mind's of hollywood directors. There may be sluggish or NIL growth but definitely not a rush to the bottom. Markets may slowly sink and comeback more slowly. Last time when bubble burst, I remember very well that for 3 months no one bought anything and inventories were literally dried up. Which pused higher growth in the following quarters. From whatever I see people are not going to panic and completely stop buying things as they did during melt down. Since everyone just event through recession and they realize that things will be ok after a while, completely stopping to spend is not going to happen and that is my guess...

Tamizh Padam
Been to the movie Y'day. it was a cool movie and loads of fun. Cleanly made spoof on everything stupid on Tamil cinema. Absolute attack on heroisms and stupid sentiments being pushed on people in the name of culture. Must watch! Now let us can some one take a movie called Tamil Kudumbam mimicking big family of Tamil Nadu. Not any time soon as just yesterday there was a big big function in Chennai to felicitate MK for all the help he has done for Tamil Industry.
